Nairobi County Assembly Beatrice Elachi has resigned with her deputy taking over the seat in acting capacity.The Deputy Speaker John Kamangu is a Member of the County Assembly in Ruai.
While tendering her resignation letter to the president, she said,”I humbly tender my resignation to President Uhuru Kenya. For the last few days there have been life threatening incidences. I appoint my deputy speaker, John Kamangu as acting speaker,”
She thanked the President and added that Nairobi was going to thrive under the stewardship of the new Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS) which has already done various projects under General Badi.
Elachi born in Kakamega in 1973 is a Kenyan politician elected as Speaker of the Nairobi County Assembly, since 6 September 2017. She replaced Alex Ole Magelo. Immediately prior to her election, she was the Majority Whip in the Kenya Senate
In 2013, Beatrice Elachi was nominated to the Senate as a member of the Alliance Party of Kenya. She rose to the rank of Majority Chief Whip in the Upper Chamber, the first woman to serve in that capacity, in the history of Kenya’s parliament.
In 2017, Beatrice won the Jubilee Alliance primary elections in the Dagoretti North Constituency, in April.In the August 2017 general election, she lost to Paul Simba Arati, the incumbent.
