Archbishop and founder of the Church of God Byrum Akhahenda Makokha has passed on aged 91 years. The Church of God in East Africa has its headquarters at Kima in Bunyore, a town near Maseno in Western Province.Through the church, the man of God sponsored several learning institutions such as Bunyore Girls’ High School, Mwihila Boys, Eshibinga Secondary and Ingotse High School. The cause of his death was not immediately established but he made a public appearance outside his work in July when he hosted Governor Wycliffe Oparanya at his home.
Kakamega County Governor Wycliffe Oparanya condoled with the family on his social media accounts saying,
Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga also mourned the clergy saying “My condolences go out to the family of Bishop Byrum Makokha and the congregation of the Church of God of East Africa. The church has lost an astute leader who ministered to many and oversaw its monumental growth.”
